The American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (AJSLP) publishes summary statistics of acceptance/rejection rates and manuscript processing times. These summary statistics provide average manuscript processing times for authors who are considering submitting a manuscript and data on acceptance/rejection rates that may be used by tenure/promotion committees. Occasionally, decisions about the quality of a journal also take circulation into account. As of August 22, 2003, the circulation for AJSLP was 33,528. Because the journal moved to a totally online peer-review system in early 2002, AJSLP’s summary statistics only reflect the online submissions (all submissions from February 1 on).
Acceptance and rejection rates shown in Table 1 are averaged from manuscripts submitted online in 2002 for which a final decision was made as of August 31, 2003. Accepted manuscripts are those for which a final decision to accept, with no provisions, has been made. Rejected manuscripts are those that have been judged unsuitable for publication and for which no revision or resubmission has been requested. The rates do not equal 100% because final decisions have not been made for those manuscripts that are still in the process of revision or resubmission.
