With this column, I say farewell to my Editorship of the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and turn the reins over to the incredibly capable Dr. Carol Scheffner Hammer (also a former Associate Editor of this journal) and an impeccable team of Associate Editors. With all sincerity, I can confidently say that serving as Editor of this great journal will always represent to me one of the hallmarks of my professional career. In this role, I have tried to be fair, thoughtful, and expedient, and for the most part I feel that I served the journal well.
Being the AJSLP Editor, while certainly not bringing me wealth or fame, did give me the opportunity to serve my profession, to play a role in advancing our science, and to learn more about the tremendously inspiring work being pursued on behalf of the discipline of speech-language pathology. Not the least, however, the position provided me the occasion to work with a remarkable group of talented, conscientious, and committed Associate Editors who, at the end of the day, probably worked harder than I did over the last 3 years. These persons are the ones who really rolled up their sleeves and provided incredible stewardship of this journal over my tenure: Michelle Bourgeois, Patrick Finn, Sandra Laing Gillam, Howard Goldstein, Carol Scheffner Hammer, Jessica Huber, Julie Liss, Marilyn Nippold, Nancy Pearl Solomon, Cynthia Thompson, Shelley Velleman, Krista Wilkinson, and Lynne Williams. Numerous additional persons served as Guest Associate Editors and Reviewers, and made such remarkable contributions. With sadness, I also recognize Adele Miccio, who provided service to our profession through her Associate Editorship to this journal until the very end of her too short life; Adele passed away on March 24, 2009.
